Biography of Yoloanda Kakana

Yoloanda Kakana is the name adopted by Yolanda Chicane, a young Mozambican who began her musical career in 2003. In 2004, Yolanda joined producer and guitarist Jim Gwaza (Azarias Arone) and founded the band Kakana with the aim of using given by God to express love, peace as well as the bitter truth of today's world using sweet melodies.

Kakana identifies with the fusion of various musical styles, highlighting Afro, Rock and Jazz and compositions written in several languages. Throughout his career, Kakana has won several awards, namely: Best Voice (Top Ngoma 2007,2010,2012), Revelation (Top Ngoma 2007), Fusion Award (Top Ngoma 2010), Best Band (Top Ngoma 2009) and fusion (Mozambique Music Awards – MMA 2010).

For the Azgo Festival 2014, Yolanda prepared a repertoire already known by the public that follows her work.

Yolanda Chicane is the lead singer of one of the most cherished musical groups in Mozambique today – Banda Kakana.

The group incorporates elements of Folk and Funk into African rhythms. And it was founded in 2004 by AzariasArone (Jimmy Gwaza) and Yolanda Chicane, since then the duo have been toasting the Mozambican audience with perfection, performing on various stages (local festivals, parties, weddings, cocktails, gala dinners and in some pasture houses in Maputo City).

Your music has no borders. Based on Marrabenta and other national rhythms, they merge with world rhythms, making a perfect combination of Jimmy Gwaza's guitar and Yolanda Chicane's unmistakable voice.

The singer Yolanda, brings in her compositions, messages of hope, peace and love. She believes that music is a universal language of concord among all beings.

Afro, Rock and Jazz, are predominant rhythms in compositions written in several languages ​​such as: Changana, Emacua, Chope, Portuguese and English.
